\nWhen I was looking for a study abroad program for the Global Studies Program (GSP), I wanted to take a study abroad program to study environment-related topics and communicate with people in English to improve my English skills. Korea University’s International Summer Campus (KU ISC) had 6-week courses, which was very good for me, and the price seemed cheaper than other study abroad programs. The classes held at Korea University provided various topics and were suitable for learning professional knowledge. I thought I could learn English skills more than just joining an English learning school. For those reasons, I decided to join the KU ISC. After all, I had precious experiences both inside and outside of classrooms.<\/p>\n
I took two courses, Language Culture and Society in Korea and Strategic Management. In both courses, I was the only Japanese student, and there were a lot of native and fluent English speakers. It was very hard for me to catch up with the classes’ speed because they all spoke English more fluently than me. However, thanks to the support of my classmates and professors, I could complete both courses and take credits, and I could learn many things. In addition, I could deepen engagement between different cultures and people. For example, in a Korean language and culture class, I gave a presentation about cultural differences between Japan and Korea and told Japanese language to some of my classmates.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

Outside classrooms, I could also actively communicate with people from different cultural backgrounds. For example, I had a picnic with buddies (students from Korea University) and visited Busan with international students. I have several friends still contacting me, and I could meet some of them in Japan when they visited Japan. My community was expanded and became more global. In addition, I interviewed some of the students for a field study of the GSP about garbage issues, which I am working on for the GSP. Talking with my friends from different countries about garbage issues in their home countries, I learned that their cultures could affect policies and ideas on the problems. There is more to study, but I had a great experience.<\/p>\n
Thanks to the 6 weeks at KU ISC, I’ve grown more than expected. First, my English fluency has improved significantly; I can think and speak more quickly and express my thoughts more accurately. Second, I’ve started to share my ideas and opinions more explicitly than I was accustomed to. I believe this change came from making presentations in English during the program, which helped me overcome my anxiety about speaking in a second language. As a result of these experiences, I began to participate and communicate more actively in classes after returning to Kobe University. I intend to make the most of this experience to lead a more fulfilling life.<\/p>\n

When I was looking for a study abroad program for the Global Studies Program (GSP), I wanted to take a study abroad program to study environment-related topics and communicate with people in English to improve my English skills. Korea University’s International Summer Campus (KU ISC) had 6-week courses, which was very good for me, and the price seemed cheaper than other study abroad programs. The classes held at Korea University provided various topics and were suitable for learning professional knowledge. I thought I could learn English skills more than just joining an English learning school. For those reasons, I decided to join the KU ISC. After all, I had precious experiences both inside and outside of classrooms.<\/p>\n
I took two courses, Language Culture and Society in Korea and Strategic Management. In both courses, I was the only Japanese student, and there were a lot of native and fluent English speakers. It was very hard for me to catch up with the classes’ speed because they all spoke English more fluently than me. However, thanks to the support of my classmates and professors, I could complete both courses and take credits, and I could learn many things. In addition, I could deepen engagement between different cultures and people. For example, in a Korean language and culture class, I gave a presentation about cultural differences between Japan and Korea and told Japanese language to some of my classmates.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

Outside classrooms, I could also actively communicate with people from different cultural backgrounds. For example, I had a picnic with buddies (students from Korea University) and visited Busan with international students. I have several friends still contacting me, and I could meet some of them in Japan when they visited Japan. My community was expanded and became more global. In addition, I interviewed some of the students for a field study of the GSP about garbage issues, which I am working on for the GSP. Talking with my friends from different countries about garbage issues in their home countries, I learned that their cultures could affect policies and ideas on the problems. There is more to study, but I had a great experience.<\/p>\n
Thanks to the 6 weeks at KU ISC, I’ve grown more than expected. First, my English fluency has improved significantly; I can think and speak more quickly and express my thoughts more accurately. Second, I’ve started to share my ideas and opinions more explicitly than I was accustomed to. I believe this change came from making presentations in English during the program, which helped me overcome my anxiety about speaking in a second language. As a result of these experiences, I began to participate and communicate more actively in classes after returning to Kobe University. I intend to make the most of this experience to lead a more fulfilling life.<\/p>\n
