I have four classes right now: international affairs, EMST (entertainment media and industry), and two courses on sociology. EMST is about how the film, TV, and radio industries have worked globally in recent years. During the first few days of class, I struggled with making friends and catching up with the content of each class, but as time went by, I got better at it. For example, in the \u201csociology in film\u201d class, our professor has a strong southern accent, which means it is different from the English we learned in high school for listening and speaking. The thing is, you just need to believe you can get used to it as time goes by.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

Before starting my exchange program, I wished to visit the media industries or attend paid internships and learn how the media industry works with many ethnicities. However, soon after arriving at UGA, I realized this was difficult for some reasons as an exchange student, so I changed my focus to the relationships between race and Christianity. In the States, especially in the South, Baptism is really popular and rooted in their lifestyle.\u00a0Also, I am a Christian and could find a church to attend weekly. So, I thought it would be more natural and interesting for me to work on the new topic by joining Christian communities here. I just started working on this topic, and I\u2019m excited about what I will learn more about.<\/p>\n

UGA students put emphasis on \u201cWhen you study, study hard. When you enjoy, enjoy fully.\u201d On weekends, they stop studying and party at bars or clubs. I usually go to a concert, play pickleball (which is like tennis), go to church, and go to a movie night. If I don\u2019t have any plans, I practice piano by myself and work out at a gym. As you can imagine, the university\u2019s size is much bigger than that of universities in Japan. You can do everything on campus without needing to go outside by car.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

As mentioned earlier, I was impressed with how people here are always passionate about events and having fun. They really cherish American football games. Even when they have nothing special, they can enjoy all the small things that make a day. For example, my four friends and I played basketball and made ramen today. It was such a delightful time, but at the same time, I noticed that they enjoyed playing basketball and eating even though they had to study and do tons of assignments. I was impressed by how they balance their work and enjoyment.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>
